Coves del Drac
These limestone caves on the edge of Porto Cristo have become one of Mallorca's top tourist sights with large groups enjoying 2km of paths. Guides explain in four languages how to interpret the fascinating stalactite formations - a cactus here, a flag there, the Fairies' Theatre, Diana's Bath .. Initially they may just resemble thousands of spiky parsnips hanging from the ceiling but after the guided tour they have a different meaning. Try to imagine how Walt Disney would conjure up a fabulous witches' cave and you have the idea. The one-hour tour ends with a floodlit, floating violin concert on Lake Martel, Europe's largest underground lake, named after the French geologist Edouard Martel who first explored these caves in the late 19th century. Afterwards you can depart by taking the boat across the lake to the exit.
