Cuisines of Majorca
There are varieties of cuisines available at Majorca and believe me you’ll really find them yummy. Mallorcan cuisine is basically based on pork, fish and vegetables with slight use of garlic and olive oil, it is hearty peasant fare sheered in tradition and entrenched in local ingredients.
The sausages come in numerous different varieties - firstly you have Sobrasada, i.e. raw minced pork with hot red pepper, Botifarro, which is cured pork with blood, also spicy chorizo from Spain. Jamon Serrano, a whole cured ham is found in every bar and is displayed on an attractive slicing-board.
You can also find frit mallorqui, a fry-up of the most delicate offal with potatoes, onions and tomatoes. Today you can find it alongside tumbet on the menus; this is a Mallorcan-style ratatouille which is made from aubergines, potatoes and peppers in olive oil, and sopes mallorquines, a thick broth of thinly-sliced brown bread and vegetables. Other classic dishes include llom amb col, which is pork wrapped in cabbage with pine nuts and raisins and lechona asada, a roasted suckling pig.
So you’ll never get fed up with any particular dish as there are varieties of them. Give yourself a different taste everyday.
