Famous people of Majorca
There are many famous people born in Majorca and people who have lived in Majorca. I am going mention few names here. Famous Majorcans, include writer and philosopher, Ramon Llull, a wealthy courtier in Palma and Junípero Serra, the Franciscan friar founder of mission chain in Alta California. Other famous people are Frédéric Chopin, Joan Miró, famous Spanish painter, whose surrealist works, with their subject matter drained from the sphere of memory and creative fantasy, are some of the most unique of the 20th century.
From the 19th century, the military commander, Joaquin Jovellar y Soler, and two times Spanish Prime Minister, Antonio Maura Montaner are the famous persons’ in Majorca. In the recent times, sportsmen from Majorca include top tennis players Rafael Nadal and Carlos Moya. Rafael Nadal\'s uncle, Miguel Ángel Nadal is the previous international Spanish footballer. In 2006, Majorca\'s Jorgé Martinez won the world 250cc motor cycling title.

Many famous people have lived on the island of Majorca/Mallorca. Some famous persons who had residence in Majorca are Frédéric Chopin and George Sand, who romantically involved rented space from a monastery for a short time. Robert Graves, the author of the famous autobiography, Good Bye to All That moved and stayed for the rest of his life in Majorca. After spending his later years on Majorca, Joan Miró died in Son Abrines, Palma de Majorca on December 25, 1983. In 1992 the Fundació Pillar i Joan Miró was established in the island.
Of the modern celebrities, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas maintained a residence in the island since the late 1990s on the north shore, spending about half the year there. Other celebrities who maintain their residences in Majorca are Annie Lennox, Claudia Schiffer, Cynthia Charles (former wife of John Lennon), Julian Lennon, Michael Schumacher, the former England footballer Steve McManaman, tennis player Boris Becker, and former Spanish leader, Felipe González.
