Paguera / Cala Fornells / Camp de Mar...

The resort of Paguera, along with the neighbouring resorts of Palma Nova, Magaluf and Santa Ponsa, are all part of the municipal district of Calvia on the south west coast of Majorca.

Transfer time for the 35km journey west from the Son Sant Joan International airport can vary substantially on the time of the day or night of the journey, although generally by coach this will be around 45 minutes from leaving the airport grounds, or 30 to 40 minutes by taxi.

The route west is fairly straightforward for the most part, once you have adjusted to driving on the wrong side of the road that is. As you leave the airport grounds you will normally join the PM-19 motorway heading west towards Palma, which then becomes the PM-20 as it arcs around the northern residential and industrial suburbs of the city. You then need to continue west along the PM-1 until it becomes the C-719 Carretera de Palma-Andratx, at which point then keep a sharp look out for the C-719a turning to take you into the centre of the resort. A more detailed version of this route, complete with links to maps where appropriate, is available from the Route Map link on the left hand frame of this page.

As we mentioned earlier, a taxi transfer will normally trim the overall journey time slightly, and for the growing numbers of visitors who prefer this option, there are always plenty of taxis available from the ranks outside of the arrivals hall, although on occasions you should be prepared to queue. In theory at least, these taxis should all operate on a fixed price basis, typically charging around Ђ40 for the journey to Paguera, however experience has shown that this "fixed price" may vary slightly depending upon the number of suitcases, the time of day or night of the journey, and of course the number of passengers carried. Also an important consideration for families with small children, is that these taxis do not as a rule carry child seats, therefore children may have to sit on their parent's knee for the journey. If this is a cause for concern, we strongly recommend that you make arrangements for a pre-booked taxi to be waiting for you, and clearly specify at the time of booking that a child seat is needed for the journey.

Southwest, 30 min. from Palma Camp de Mar is located. Those who are not bend on night life, find an untroubled family friendly place, in a deep bay with protected waveless beaches. Encircled by the foothills of the Sierra Tramuntana, Camp de Mar is a perfect initial point for hikes and bike tours. Besides various sports activities this place provides nearby a challenging golf course as well as miscellaneous shopping facilities, bars and restaurants. One of this is located on a preliminary island and can be directly reached by a footbridge

The posh residential area Cala Fornells is located in the southwest approx. 30 km away from Palma. The houses and apartments in Mexican pueblo style are nested into each other and integrated among pines and well-kept gardens to the slope, connected by little alleys and stairways. Thanks to a located supermarket, restaurants and pretty pools with sea view, the residents need not betake oneself to the lowland of tourism. Due to the scarp location the town owns impressive scenery with unspoilt sea view. Anyhow, there is a small sand beach, which can be reached by stairways

Paguera is a very popular resort many people are attracted by the small network of coastal hiking routes towards the back of the resort.Paguera offers visitors a choice of 3 beaches, called "Playa Palmira", "Playa Tora" and "Playa La Romana", which are all joined by a fairly new pedestrian promenade. The beaches are very well kept and the water is of excellent quality. Before the growth of the tourist industry on the island during the 1960's, Paguera was originally a tiny fishing village, however, the last 40 years has seen it develop and grow, into a popular modern tourist resort with plenty of restaurants and facilities.
