Puerto Andratx with its romantic fisherman harbor, magnificent views over the mountains and noble marina is located approximately 30 km southwest from Palma and the Son Sant Joan Airport. The town owes its outstanding flair to the promenade with its bars and gourmet restaurants, along the east shore as well as the smallish angled old town with further restaurants and exclusive shops. In recent years Puerto Andratx developed due to its ambience and diversified submontane landscape from insiders tip to first class choice of many international celebrities, such as Claudia Schiffer and Michael Douglas. Attractive boutiques and decoration shops offer the latest fashion. Strolling along the charming promenade, the fisherman’s harbor and around the church square there are restaurants with local food and gourmet-restaurants with fresh fish and sea food. Cafés and bars invite for a nice meal or drink. Opposite the fisherman’s harbor is the well known marina where the yachts of locals and visitors are moored. This picturesque village is a paradise for all kind of water sports. The main sport activity in Port d´Andratx is scuba diving with several Padi centers offering excursions from the port. The nearest beach, a tennis and golf course (Camp de Mar) are a 5 minute drive away. In total there are 12 beaches in the area. The largest one with 345 kilometers is Cala Marmasen. It is located about 1.7 kilometers from Port d´Andratx. Just a couple of kilometers inland there is the town of Andratx, where you can visit the weekly local market, which takes place near the Paseo de Son Mos and the 13th century church of Santa Maria d´Andratx, which is open on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday mornings. The town hall is in Son Mas´ castle and was built in the 19th century. A 15th century tower, the Sagrament is inside. The newly built Centro Cultural in Andratx is one of Europe’s largest private buildings for contemporary art. The centre includes a 1,500 m² art gallery, which holds 3 major exhibitions per year of both established and emerging artists in contemporary art as well as a gallery, restaurant, bookshop and a number of artist’s studios. Nearby there is Dragonera Island, which is a 6 long rock, enjoying the protection of the Majorca Council from commercial development. Regular boat trips leave from the marina at Sant Elm to Dragonera Island. It takes about twenty minutes to cross the Es Freu channel. On the island there is a small museum and evidence of Roman settlement at the Cova de Sa Font. Worth a visit is also the Dragonera Natural Park. There are several popular events each year, starting around the 29th June, with the fiesta de San Pedro, followed by the colorful fiesta of Our Lady of Carmen on the 16th July, which features a beautiful boat procession around the marina.
